FAQ

Questions people actually ask.

Where is Summit Ridge Counseling located?+

The office is at 668 SE Bayberry Lane, Suite 105, Lee's Summit, MO 64063 — roughly 20 miles southeast of downtown Kansas City. I see clients in person from Lee's Summit, Kansas City, Independence, Blue Springs, Raymore, Grandview, and the surrounding metro. I also offer HIPAA-compliant telehealth to clients anywhere in Missouri.

Are you accepting new clients?+

Yes — I'm currently accepting new clients across all services: couples therapy, individual adult therapy, child and adolescent therapy, ADHD assessments, and family court work. The quickest way to start is booking directly through the client portal, where you can see real availability. A free 15-minute consultation call is also available if you'd like to talk first.

How soon can I get an appointment?+

Most new clients are seen within one to two weeks of their first inquiry. Booking directly through the client portal is fastest — you'll see real-time availability rather than waiting on a callback. Telehealth tends to have more flexible scheduling than in-person.

What areas do you serve?+

In person at the Lee's Summit office: Lee's Summit, Kansas City, Independence, Blue Springs, Raymore, Grandview, Liberty, Gladstone, and anywhere else in the Kansas City metro reasonable for an office visit.

By telehealth: anywhere in the state of Missouri. The session is HIPAA-compliant and runs through the same secure portal as scheduling.

Do you accept insurance?+

Yes — I'm in-network with Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, GEHA, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. If yours isn't listed, reach out. I can often help you check your out-of-network benefits, and I'm happy to provide a superbill for self-submission.

What does therapy cost?+

Self-pay rates are:

  • $175 — intake session
  • $135 — individual session (50 min)
  • $150 — couples or family session (60 min)
  • $399 — ADHD assessment (90 min, all-in)

ADHD assessments are self-pay only — insurance is not accepted for assessments. If you're using insurance benefits for therapy, your cost is set by your insurance plan — typically a copay, deductible, or coinsurance amount that depends on your specific coverage. Your insurance carrier can give you the exact number for a behavioral health visit before we meet.

See full rates and insurance details on the services page.

How long are sessions?+

Individual sessions are 50 minutes. Couples and family sessions are typically 60 minutes. Assessment sessions and court-services engagements vary depending on scope — we'll agree to that in advance.

How often will we meet?+

Weekly is standard — research is pretty clear that weekly frequency, at least at the start, produces better outcomes. As you make progress, we can often space sessions further apart. For couples work, weekly or every-other-week tends to work well.

Do you offer telehealth?+

Yes. I offer HIPAA-compliant telehealth to clients physically located anywhere in Missouri. I find a hybrid approach — some sessions in-person, some remote — works well for many clients.

Is our first session a full therapy session?+

The first session is mostly about getting oriented — what brought you in, relevant history, what you're hoping to change, and whether we're a good fit for each other. Real therapeutic work typically starts in sessions two through four, once we've shaped an approach together.

What if I'm not sure therapy is right for me?+

That's one of the most common things I hear, and it's completely valid. I offer a brief no-cost consultation call so you can ask questions, share what's going on, and get a sense of whether we'd work well together — with no obligation to move forward.

What should I do in a mental health emergency?+

Summit Ridge Counseling is not a crisis service. If you are in a mental health emergency, please:

  • Call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline)
  • Call 911
  • Go to your nearest emergency room
How do I start?+

You have a few options — pick whichever feels easiest:
